FREEDOM BAND TO PLAY FREE
CONCERT March 24th, 4PM @ First
Congregational Church of Los Angeles.
The Freedom Band Foundation of Los
Angeles Presents – “Marches in March”
The Freedom Band Foundation of Los
Angeles is pleased to announce there will be
a free concert in the Shatto Chapel of the
First Congregational Church of Los Angeles
on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 4:00PM. The Freedom Band Foundation will proudly
present The Gay Freedom Band of Los
Angeles under the baton of their new
Artistic Director, Justin Raines, in “Marches in March,” a retrospective of how
one of the world’s great musical traditions
has been adapted, adopted and transformed
by American society. “Marches in March”
will take listeners on an around the world
trip to hear how the march developed in
different areas. How marches merged with
politics, culture, history and even
entertainment to become a musical force in
all aspects of society. From John Philip
Sousa to John Williams, we will learn just
how much marches have permeated our
civilization. Foundation President Fran
Long says “The lifeblood of society comes out in the beat of marches, rousing us to step
forward and reach for tomorrow. They can
carry us to great heights of accomplishment
as well as remind us of the ordeals of the
past and heal our hearts at the same time.”
Mr. Raines has programmed music from the
stirring “March from 1941” by John
Williams, the 1st Suite for Band by Gustav
Holst, as well as Jay Ungar’s “Ashokan
Farewell” that was featured in Ken Burns’
miniseries “The Civil War,” along with
many other audience favorites and even a
surprise or two! Mr. Justin Raines, who
recently assumed the role of Artistic
Director, is a composer with an impressive list of credentials, including a Master’s
Degree in Music Composition. His music
has been performed all over the world. The
Tad Wind Symphony from Tokyo, Japan
has premiered several of his works and
released those recordings internationally on
CDs and via Internet downloads.
Throughout his career, Raines has had the
opportunity to study with Dr. William Clark
and Dr. Ken Van Winkle, both notable
clinicians and members of the American
Bandmasters Association. He has also
studied and mentored with Takayoshi (Tad)
Suzuki, conductor of the Tad Wind
Symphony in Tokyo, Japan. The First
Congregational Church is located at 540 S.
Commonwealth Ave., Los Angeles, CA
90020 and the concert will begin at 4:00pm. Donations to the Freedom Band Foundation,
a 501c3 nonprofit musical organization will
be graciously accepted.

Light The Way To Justice Orange County

6:30pm
Join us for a Vigil at the Federal Courthouse during the oral arguments on the constitutionality of DOMA!
On March 26th & 27, 2013 the Supreme Court of the United States of America (SCOTUS) will be listening to oral arguments on the
constitutionality of The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). DOMA states that marriage is between one man and one woman, but now it
is our time to show the depth of equality and justice for all.
This is not a march, a fight, or a demonstration - this is a peaceful show of solidarity, a stand for LOVE, not hate.
Signs, candles and visible support.
